SUBIECT: Grant in Aid - Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

RECOMMENDATION:

That the City's long standing policy of not making Grants~in~Ald
be maintained, and that no grant be made to the Vancouver Symphony
Orchestra.

Background and Comments:

in its letter of August 3rd, 1988 the Vancouver Symphony
Orchestra requeated that a grant~in-aid in the amount of $5,000.00 be made
to it. As instructed by the Council on August 29th, 1988 the Finance
Committee has reviewed thig request and find that there are no funds
provided in the City Budget to make such a grant and to do so would violate
the City's long standing policy in this regard.
