/4, Outdoors Un- ‘littered re “"Clunker Week" Sept./76 GVRD re mtg. on Livable Reg, Programme August 3rd, 1976 of September 13 ~- 17, 1976 as "Clunker Week"! during which old and /or wrecked vehicles would be removed from private and public property at no cost to the taxpayer and requesting Council's co-operation and endorsation of the campaign. Additionally, they requested that the Council appoint a Municipal Co-ordinator to work with them during the campaign. Moved by Alderman Laking: Seconded by Alderman Ranger: That "Clunker Week", September 13 - 17, 1976, as outlined in the July 6th, 1976 letter from Outdoors Unlittered, be endorsed and fully supported by this City; AND THAT the City's By-law Enforcement Officer, R.G. Criggie, be appointed as the Municipal Co-ordinator for the campaign. Carried. From the Greater Vancouver Regional District Planning Department, July 20th, 1976 with regard to setting a meeting to discuss, for approximately one hour, the Livable Region Programme including the 1986 population target figure of 37,000 set for Port Coquitlam, Discussion ensued and Alderman Ranger suggested that a late af‘ ernoon considering the length of discussion requested and Alderman Traboulay expressed the opinion that no meeting was necessary in view of the fact that the Council had set its own policy on growth and had not endorsed the G.V.R.D. proposal as presented at the July 12th meeting of Council. and felt any further meeting on the subject would be a waste of G.V.R.D. staff time. Alderman Ranger disagreed and indicated he would welcome the opportunity to express his concerns in person to the G.V.R.D.. Alderman Laking suggested that the G.V.R.D. target, had it been accepted, was only slightly higher than that set by Council and the provision for a review and revision, should it become necessary, was included in the proposal, and therefore agreed that a meeting should be held. Mayor Campbell noted that the G.V.R.D. was here to stay and that many people did not realize the essential services provided by the G.V.R.D. in the areas of Water Distribution, Sewerage and Drainage treatment, hospitals, pollution control, and to some degree transportation. [It appears the only area of concern 1s in connection with the planning functions of the Regional District and the conflicts in this regard have affected the overall situation and the Mayor felt that a meeting should be held as requested.
