From the Finance Committee, December 7th, 1973, concerning continued licence issuing, ; _ ete.-City Hall _ involvement in Motor Vehicle licencing operaticns, and recommending that the | City withdraw from providing this service due to the commercial aspect, as it is felt if income is available to the local insurance offices through the commissioned sale of Government insurance, the City should not compete. The Finance Committee, in its report, also mentioned that automobile ovners will be able to obtain their licence plate renewals and insurance at any one of the five “ocal agencies; therefore, the bulk of the motor vehicle business will still be handled locally. A report from the Motor Vehicle Clerk, Mrs. N. Murphy, December 3rd, 1973, containing additional information on the Subject was also submitted. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Laking: That as recommended in a report from the Finance Committee, December 7th, 1973, the City withdraw, from the motor vehicle jicencing operation due to the commercial aspect. - : Defeated. Alderman Laking and Rauiger 1 voted in favour of the resolution. Alderman Thompson abstained from voting.
