TO: Mayor and Council DATE: March 23, 1973 FROM: Health Committee The Health Committee met in the board room of the Simon Fraser Health Unit building on Tuesday, March 20, 1973. The meeting was open to the public to discuss the community school concept. The Committee will be pursuing this subject further and will report to Council. Day Care Centres # Our present zoning by-law makes provision for Councii approval of a personal care use in a residential zone for up to ten ambulatory guests providing the use is licenced under the Community Care Facilities Licencing Act and approved by Council. Day Care Centres are similarly covered by the Community Care Facilities Licencing Act however we do not have any such provision in our zoning by-law permitting Day Care Centres in a residential zone. The Health Committee recommends to Council that the zoning by-law be amended to insert provision for Council approval of a Day Care Centre use where they have been licenced under the Provisions of the Community Care Facilities Licencing Act and approved by Council as suitable for Day Care Centre use. The Committee did not make any recommendation on the maximum number of children i that could be accommodated in such a use. Our present by-law allows up to ten ambulatory guests for personal care use however zoning by-laws in adjacent municipalities permit up to five children in a Day Care Centre use. Council may wish to comment on the maximum number that should be permitted in a Day Care ‘ . ; Centre use in the City of Port Coquitlam. The Health Committee recommends to Council that the zoning by-law be amended to provide for the above mentioned use. LDP :da
