SUSAN LEPOIDEVIN WORKSHOP REVIEW Susan drove in from Princeton on September 19th ta demonstrate her intriguing pots with their enigmatic figures. She showed slides and talked about the mary things and people that have influenced her work: -the varied landscapes In which she has lived and the folk art of many cultures from which she has extracted some small personal elements. Her pot forms [many burnished) are constructed with a series of slabs and coils. She fashioned a series of figures, which magically came allve as she added loosely wrapped garments to create the Ulusion of something beneath. Their facelessress surrounds them in mystery: their hats seem to play a large part in determining their origin, and many cary bundles of straw or sticks. They seem to convey that they have a life of their own: their postures indicate that they are doing aomething and going somewhere, and they stir memories of characters in childhood stories.
