Proposal for Service to GVRD Municipalities

RECOMMENDATION:

That City Council endorse the GYRD Mayors Committee
To carry out joint tourist promotion.

And that City Council endorse the GVRD decision to contract
with Tourism Vancouver to prove this service.

And that the City of Port Coquitiam contribute up to $2,500 to
this effort for the coming budget year.

COMMENTS:

The Economic Development Committee has reviewed the GVRD Mayors
Committee tourist promotion initiative and spent additiona!
Time discussing the proposed work programme with Tourism
Vancouver.

it is the Committee's recommendation that Port Coquitiam
participate in the GVRD initiative. The Committee's rationale
for this recommendation is several fold; the Tourism Vancouver
representative attending the Committee meeting provided
information describing the work program and how it would
directly benefit each participating municipality. In addition,
they also advised that the participating municipalities would
be provided with documentation of results of work done in their
behalf, eg. tours directed toa the community.

In view of the benefits and review the Committee are

recommending approval of the initiative.
