Under a tentative two-year deal
agreed to at the end of March, the
per point rate is to climb to $6.50.

For provincial employees in
Smithers and Telkwa, thal means
an increase from $68.75 a manth

or $825 a year to $71.5 a month

or $858 a year.

The increases in isolation al-
lowances are parl of a monetary
package worth an estimated $8
million for the first year of the
two-year deal.

There are wage increases of 1.5
per cent planned for the second
year af the contract.

Towns ranking below 11 points
don’! qualify as being isolated.

Kitwanga rings in at 15 points,
paying provincial employees
$1,170 a year under the tentative
deal.

The Hazeltons are ranked. at 13
points, Stewart -is ranked: at 21
points, . Dease -Lake~ al’ 27,
Telegraph Creek and 32 and Atlin
at 34> -

The latter ranking means, , under
the tentative new rate, a payment
of $2,652.a year.

A provincial official did note
that the new agreement does con-
tain a provision to examine: the
towns now considered isolated,

Criteria for ranking include
climate, geography, distance from
a population centre of 10,000 or
mare, proximily to medical and
dental facilities and availability of
post secondary educational
facilities. -
