The idea in the 90s, Henning continued, is to have women's centres act as community cen- tres and to be flexible to handle issues as they arise. She and Lutes view the 90s as the decade in which men and women can support each other. The women’s centre here has counterparts in Kitimat and Prince Rupert. Their northern Iccations in more isolated cities’ bring them prablems not experienced by A NEW co-ordinator and administrator have taken up positions at the Terrace Women's Resource Centre. That's co-ordinator Karla Henning, left, and administrator Bev Lutes, right. They want to state a great variety of activities at the centre, centres areas, in more populated , To help cope with that and to set up a better exchange of in- formation, women’s centres across the province are asking the provincial government for money to install computers and modems. ~ “It’s also a case of not having to duplicate’ services,’? said Henning. An example, she add- ed, is a program in the Kootenays which sets out role models for teenage girls. “If they have all that infor- mation, all we have to do is use it. It’s a matter of awareness,’? Lutes said, Talent search on. TERRACE — The B.C. Coun- try Music association’s Country Talent Search is on once again and one of last year's winners says it’s time for talented solo vocalists to come out and show their stuff, “There’s so much talent out there,” said Karen Ljungh, “We've got to get them out of the closet.’ One of two winners to emerge from the 1989 nor- thwesiern competition, Ljungh subsequently won a spot in the provincial finals, Describing that experience as both -fun and “really good ex- perience,” she said it gave her a chance-to meet not only other entertainers from all parts of the province, but also those in- volved in the production end of the business.. Although two ‘‘heats’? have already taken place, she said those interested in taking part still had three more oppor- tunities ta do so — March 10, March 24 and April 7. The com- petitions take place from 5.30-6.30 p.m each of those Saturday evenings at the Nor- thern Motor Inn. The winners from all five ses- sions will advance to the pacific Northwest finals scheduled for April 21 with success there earn- ing the artist a trip to Kelowna for the regionals on May 12.
