Mr. and Mrs. Ron Kereliuk of L&D Motors Lid of Terrace are shown in a photograph taken at Vancouver International Airport, just before the departure for Japun of a 102nd birthday Albert E. MacTavish, a.. resident. of the SkeenaView Hospital for the past fourteen years will celebrate a rather special Christmas this year. On December 25th, Christmas Day, he will be 102 years old. Or,.is-that 103? The confusion arises from conflicting statements. Albert claims to have been born in 1870 but records in the Valemont area of B.C. where he resided show a date of 1869, Either way its a very special] time for Albert. Up to the time of his coming to the Skeena View Hospital from. the Valemont area, Albert, had worked as a peddler. ‘camp to logging camp peddling his wares to the ‘ Joggers, which was quite a feat considering that , at _the time he was eighty-eight. years old, Some years before that time he had suffered a stroke and. needed a crutch for mobility. So, off he went tothe camps, pack at his back, a rifle over his . shoulder and on one crutch. He's a remarkable man, who no longer com- municates verbally with those around him. His thoughts are expressed in gestures not speech.: When this writer asked to take his picture he shook his head no, but when an attendant asked ‘if-he-/. could, Albert just shrugged. his ‘shoulders. His ° attitude was not surly or paranioic. ‘From the Herald, the people of Terrace and friends of Albert BE.
