The Department of Fisheries and Ocean's policy to commercialize the Ahoriginal Food Fishery is a major change in a lor.g history of management of the salmon stocks of B.C. ; The Deparimant of Fisheries and Oceans decision to allow a “Commercial Aboriginal Fishery’ in the upper regions of the Fraser River is a much reduced economic use of the rasource from the present Commercial Fishery as the murket value of salmon deteriorate rapidity upen entering the Fraser River. THAT THE ECONOMIC ADVISORY COMMISSION RECOMMENDS THAT COUNCIL CONTACT THE DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES AND OCEANS AND COMMUNICATE THE FOLLOWING CONCERNS: 1) ‘THAT THE PRESENT ABORIGINAL FISHERIES STRATEGY GE REVIEWED. a CAFS) 2) THAT THE DEPARTMENT DOES NOT RELINQUISH ANY PART OF - ITS AUTHORITY FOR THE MANAGEMENT AND ENFORCEMENT OF THE B.C, SALMON RESOURCE IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT THE RESOURCE 18 PROTECTED FOR THE FUTURE AND THAT ALL INDIVIDUALS AND COMMUNITIES WHICH RELY ON THE RESOURCE ARE NOT MARMED. | 3 3) THAT THE COMMERCIAL AND RECREATIONAL COMPONENTS OF THE FRASER RIVER SALMON FIGHERY NOT BE ENDANGERED AS A RESULT OF THE STRATEGY. | : 4) THAT THE ENHANCEMENT OF THE FISHERY NOT GE REDUCED.
