THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM COMMITTEE OF COUNCIL Memorandum May 7, 1993 To: B.R. Kirk. Ciry Administrator From: Larry J. Wheeler, Acting Parks & Recreation Director Subject: Skateboarders - Short Term Option (Parks & Recreation Committee April 29, 1993) Recommendation: It is recommended that Ciry Council receive the attached report. Background Information: As per Ciry Council's request, the Parks & Recreation staff have spent the last month working with local skateboarders to address the issue of skateboarding in Port Coquitlam. It was decided that the best approach to the issue was to establish a short-term option which could be evaluated while continuing to research permanent solutions. The attached report outlines a proposed short term option as worked out with the skateboarders. The total cost of this program proposal. (which could be implemented later this month), is $9,100.00. The net cust of the program, (after deducting proposed revenues), is estimated to be $7,100.00 Of this total program cost, approximately $6,600.00 net is for expenditures which require “new money” (i.e. materials, promotion, additional staff, etc.) The difference in these two figures are primarily related to internal permanent staffing costs. This portion of the overall program cost would be absorbed by transferring funds from other cost centres. The required funds have not been included in the 1993 Parks & Recreation operating budget to provide this service. In addition, as outlined in the artached memo from the City Treasurer. no other source of funds are readily availabie in the City budget. , (* \ YY ‘ \ yah \ AWA Nae: ASS Report Wniter
