. ‘ ‘a -* * THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Council December 6th, 1979 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee Meeting held December 5th, 1979, IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman E.W. Mabbett Alderman L.M. Traboulay , F.E. Peters, P. Eng.,:City Engineer ITEM I Re: Application for Revenue Sharing on Arterial Roads Once again we are faced with the problem of making a decision on which roads to apply for a revenue sharing grant from the Provincial Government even though our 1980 Budget has not been set. This is due to the fact that the Ministry of Highways requires all applications to be in by January 7th, 1980 in order to be considered on the priority list. - There are three items included in the Provisional Capital Budget which could possibly qualify for a highways grant. : 1. Construction of a portion of Broadway Street | from Kingsway to Cameron Avenue - this section of Broadway is in very poor condition and requires almost continuous mainten- ance. The ultimate role of Broadway in our street system is very important in that it connects the industrial area to the Mary Hill By-Pass. Although it will be several years before this by-pass is fully completed, the completion of the northern end of Broadway would provide a decent road to the industry already developed along that portion and will also reduce our current maintenance problems and provide a start to a future necessary link. Since the Ministry of Highways will- not share in the cost of the large box. culvert required on the west side of Broadway, -it is proposed to build only the east side at this time. Cost Estimate ~° $175,000. 2. Kingsway from Kelly to Wilson - this section of Kingsway is in very bad shape and has a high priority on the road condition report. It is part of our overall truck route system and thus the widening can be justified to highways. Cost Estimate - $117,000. Jauees
