Keryluk and Traboulay also stated they agreed with the proposal of the
Committee; however, the following motion was proposed:

That the foregoing proposed resolution concerning the recommendation
of the Leisure Activities Committee with respect to a diversion route
for Shaughnessy Street North of Dorset Avenue and the retention of the
Space between the River and the West side of Shaughnessy Street as
parkland, be deferred pending markers being set out one lot length on
the West side of that Street for an on-site inspection by members of
Council as to the feasibility of permitting a single row of houses to be

constructed on the West side of Shaughnessy Street. Carried.

BY-LAWS :

From the City Engineer, September Ist, 1977, advising with respect
to Traffic Amendment By-laws Nos. 1556 and 1557 that provide for the
conversion of traffic signs to the metric system (both By-laws now being
available for further consideration), that by September 2nd, 1977, informa-
tion signs will be posted at City entrances advising motorists that
metric conversion will be taking place shortly; before September 16th,
1977, all speed limits will be changed to metric; and by September 30th,
1977, survey crew and man working signs as well as low and bridge clearances
will be changed to metric.

Prior to passage of the foregoing resolutions, Alderman Laking
reiterated his previously stated opposition to the posting of metric
traffic signs unless the present "Imperial" system of signing remains
in place temporarily to allow motorists time to acquaint themselves with
the new metric system,
By-law No. 1558 to amend the "Advanced Poll By~law, 1969, No. 956"

by changing the hours thereof from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pem. to 8:30 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m. in order to coincide with the hours of business days presently
