Dear Six: mo, _ Re: Your letter of March 4 to the Director of Design & Surveys con- cerning Lougheed Hwy. Widening, I have been as’ed to reply to items 4 and 5 of your letter as above. There seems to be some misunderstan-~ Ging of the Departments policy in respect to lighting and signals. The Department will pay the capital costs of lighting, where deemed necessary, at intersections. Where there is continuous raised median on the arterial the Department will illuminate, on the approach side of the intersection, the area encompasse. by a left turn lane, Where there is no continuous raised median, but there is raised Left turn channelization the Department will illuminate all cf the channelized area. The Dep- artment will pay 50% of the cost of porer and maintenance 'of Lighting that we have installed and paid for. Re. your item 5, the Department will pay 100% of the capital cost of new signals or rebuilding of signals, and 50% of the cost of power and maintenance. This would apply to Westwood, Hastings Street and Shaughnessy Street. We have no traffic information yet on Oxford and on Coast Meridian intersections hence we cannot say whether we feel signals are needed at these locations. boeecceseed
