The exhibit VERS 1 - W111 runs until February Mexican Reveries [t's mid Decmber, and there we all are sitting in the sunshine in the cactus gardence at che Instituto ac San Miguel de Allende. We are making pots. rakuing.and building a wood-firing kiln. We are all the lucky participants in Denys James two week clay workshop in Mexico. San Miguel de Allende is in the mountains,abour three and a halt hour's bus ride from Mexico Ciry. [t has long held a reputation of being a music and art centre. The cown has been declared a national monument, and any new buildings have to be in the old colonial style. The Insticuto holds a large variety of classes including clay, sculpcure, painting, drawing, batik and Spanish. We stayed in a delightful guest house hosted by Rafeael de Lolita, whose main aim seemed to be thar we should all go back co Canada at least 10 pounds heavier! Denys gave us demos and encouraged us to break away from our normal pattern of working. We did a great group project where everyone worked on each other's projects and the individual pieces were assembled together. Evenings, the whale sown seemed to congregate round the town square, There was always something going on from concerts, fireworks. posadas (parindes where che nativicy crib with Jesus and Mary is paraded through che streets) followed by a party, jazz and piano bars, restaurants ind shopping. Christmas was so low key compared with North America. A large naniviry scene was put in the sown square and a couple of days before Christmas they added a cow. a couple of sheep with cheir lambs and a goat. On the way back most of the group stopped over in Mexico City and spent the day in the Museum of Anthropology, which has one of the best collections in the world. Ir was a brilliance crip, good food, good company and grear fun.
