Kitimat claimed a series 5 sweep without too much trouble at either site. a In senior play held at Kitimat, Kitimat took on Caledonia Ker- mode boys in their final of. a four-team series. The host squad took the- best-of-three title in two straight (15-0, 15-12). Kermodes, in round-robin play leading up to the champion- ship match, beat Hazelton (15-11, 15-9), took Kitimat (15-10, 11-15, 15-13), and knocked off Smithers (15-7, 15-8). . Prince Rupert took fourth and Hazelton fifth. ° In round-robin play leading up to finals, Kermodes lost two straight to both Kitimat and a Smithers. They beat Rupert 2-1 The Terrace Caledonia Kermode boys’ soccer team upset Kitimat Rowdies in the North- west final and now head for Burnaby for the 16-team B.C. high school finals starting Nov. 16. and downed Hazelton 2-0. Win-loss standings following | round-robin had Kitimat (4-0), Smithers (3-1), Caledonia (2-2), Prince Rupert (1-3) and Hazel- ton (0-4). Meanwhile, in Grade 8 action at Terrace, it was the same story. Eight teams competed on the girls’ side. They split into groups of four for preliminary round- robin action. In pool ‘A’, Skeena ‘A’ plac- ed first with six wins, no losses. Next was Prince Rupert Booth at three-and-three, Thornhill ‘B’ at three-and-three, and Kitimat ‘B’ at zero-and-six. In ‘pool ‘B’, Thornhill ‘A’ was tops at five-and-one. Then it was Kitimat ‘A’ at three-and-three, Skeena ‘B’ at three-and-three, and Nisga’a at one-and-five. | In the battle for final stan- dings on the consolation side, Thornhill ‘B’ (Sth) beat-Skeena \*B? (6th), and-:Nisga’a (7th)- downed Kitimat ‘B? (8th). In the title match, Kitimat ‘A’ took Thornhill ‘A’ in two straight - 15-2, 15-7. ‘Skeena ‘A’ won the sports- - manlike team award. The Grade 8 boys’ side at- tracted six teams for three-team round robins, then semi-finals — ‘for the top two on each side. Kitimat won ‘A’ pool on a three-win, one-loss record. Booth ‘B’ came second at two- and-two, and Skeena third at one-and-three. For pool ‘B’, Thornhill went’ ’ four-and-zero for top spot. Booth ‘A’ had a two-and-two record while Nisga’a was zero- and-four. . Skeena took on Nisga’ a for fifth and sixth and emerged the winner. In the semi- -finals,. Kitimat knocked off Booth ‘A’ and Thornhill eliminated Booth ‘B’, The two, Booths then played for third and fourth with £A°, winning out. In the title contest, Kitimat beat Thornhill 15-10, 15-11. Thornhill was named most sportsmanlike team. Bowlers to Surrey The scores are... Six five-pin bowlers from the Northwest area are headed for Surrey Nov. 18 to roll 10 games against 78 other top B.C. keglers. It’s all part of the male-female individual playoff whereby the top two shooters will represent - B.C. in the Labatt's Lite five-pin. bowling series on CBC Sports- weekend starting Jan. 13. Bowlers competing from here are Bill Robinson and Richard Woytowich of Prince Rupert, John Rassmussen of Terrace, Rob Rollins and Roger Alves of Kitimat, and Roy Sutherland of Houston. Cal fundraiser makes B.C. top ten Caledonia senior high school students and teachers wound up as the 10th highest contributors to the 1989 Milk Run to raise funds for the B.C. Lions Society for Crippled Children. Cal organizer Linda Black . estimated that well over 100 schools took part in raising $46,313.27 for crippled kids. Caltedonia’s total was $573. ‘Black said -that 1988's Caledonia total of more than $600 was the best they had done in several years. Black said local businesses help support: thé’ Milk Run through donations, Paul Clark was the celebrity competitor. She said a determin- ed effort will be made to bring in even more money next fall. Volleyball teams on road Kitimat junior high school ‘boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams were on the road Saturday. The girls went to the six-team tourney at Smithers, where they defeated Skeena 15-8, 11-15, 15-7 in the. final, Other teams taking part were Bulkley Valley Christian, Nisga’a and Kit- wanga. Kitimat’s boys went to a seven-team series at Quesnel where they finished second to Quesnel’s Corrilieu.
