PUBPOSE OF THIS PAPER: This paper summarizes the contents of those areas of the report of the Frovincial Commission on Housing Options, (the "COHO" report), that may have a significant impact on the City of Port Coquitlam and its administration; the paper provides comments on the statements and/or recommendations of the report that can be supported and those where some reconsideration is recommended. COHO REPORT MANDATE: The mandate of the COHO report was to find ways to meet British Columbia's housing needs within shrinking and limited financial resources. The report was to focus attention on market rental housing, non-market housing, and home ownership for first time purchasers. The Commission was encouraged to explore partnerships among the private sector, non-profit agencies and all leveis of government. During the consuitation process, 500 people attended the public meetings and 149 briefs were presented. The Commission received 201 written briefs from companies, local governments and groups and 157 submissions from individuals. The Commission also met with elected officials and representatives from 11 municipalities and 26 community based organizations. con't page 2 PAGE | FO
