3:90 FROM BOd 432 ¢ Evie Letterto Ms. Susan Rauh Page 2 of 2 Re: Haney ‘Main No. 3 - Stage II - Pitt River Crossing February 22, 1993 a) One cannon will be required on cach foreshore. It iS anticipated that each cannon will F located near the marsh/riparian boundary and will generally point towards the Pitt iver. The proposed distance from the cannon to the l.ougheed Highway is Pproximately 400 feet. b) We anticipate the "scare cannons” will be required over a 6-month period from late February to the end of August, 1993. If Sausfactory re-growth of the marsh is nat achieved over this period, there is a possibility that these cannons may be required again over a similar period in the following year since this District would have to redeploy new plant material on the foreshore. c) The cannons themselves are propane fired and produce nvise levels of 100 decibels measured immediately adjacent to the cannon. Frequency of firing is anticipated to be between 4 to 6 times per hour, at low tides when the marsh is exposed and from dawn to dusk only. Terra Lotic Resources has investigated various other options to eliminate the anticipated predator problems and advises that this is the only practical method to protect the marsh area. Terra Lotic Resources has also noted that this method is endorsed by the Canadian Wildlife Service. We understand that vuur municipality has been previously contacted by Mark Hillis of Terra Lotic Resources to advise you of the issues discussed above. We are now following up this initial contact and seek written approval from your municipality regarding our proposed use of "scare cannons” on the Pitt River foreshores to protect the marsh area. scheduled to comumence this restoration work in early March, 1993 comments by February 26, 1993 if possible.
