April 26th, 1974 FROM: Public Works Committee Report from the Public Works Committee meeting held Wednesday, April 24th, 1974 at 4300 Pemo In Attendance: | Aluerman M.A. Thompson Alderman J.J. Keryluk Mrs. J. Pleasants, The mnterprise VeG. Borch, P, Eng. . Respectfully Submitted. re) , , ITEM I “ . ‘ Md : Re: South Side Supply Main , : Tenders were received on Tuesday, April 2nd, 1974 for the instali- ation of the South Side Supply Main aa follows: Standard General Construction $ 153,690.00 H.B. Contracting Ltd. 214,946.00 A copy of a letter from Dayton & Knight Ltd. dated April 4th, 1974 is attached hereto. alos An updated estimate of the cost of this project was prepared in ‘November 1973 and the Committee and Council were advised by the City Fngineer that this estimated cost was $220,000.00. This included $19,000.00 for the connection to the G.V.W.D. main and $36,000.00 for Engineering and contingencies. On page two of the April 4th, 1974 letter from Dayton & Knight the total cost of the project is shown now as $240,615.00 based on the Standard General Tender of $153,690.00. In fact the total cost should be shown as $295,615.00 because the $19,000.00, and $36,000.00 amounts referred to above must be in- cluded. Therefore this project is some $75,000.00 over the November 1973 estimate if the Standard General Tender is accepted, The City Engineer has recently been advised by Dayton & Knight that the proposed location of the South Side Supply Main is in doubt. App~ arently a previously obtained approval from B.C. Hydro to locate the supply main on B.C; Hydro property has been cancelled. This of course is now under - discussion, but if the cancellation ig final a redesign and relocation to a greater or less degree will be necegsary. The Committee recommends that both tenders received be rejected ~~~ because: . 1. The location of the supply main is in doubt. . 2. The tenders are substantially over previous estimates. Ss —The Committee further vecommends that the City Engineer report _ on the location problem that has developed as soon as further information is. available and on the feasibility and implications of installing the water supply main with City crews. eee eee _ a Cor eg 7 sta eee mee ena eee cm
