Mayor and Council March 2, 1973 into conformity with most of the other municipalities in the Lower Mainland. ; Another problem in the by-law is the Provision that requires a dog to be licenced at four months. Our by-law Provides for a dog licence fee of $5.00 for a spayed female or $20.00 for an unspayed female. Veterinarians will not Spayed a female until they are nearly six months of age. Therefore there is a conflict between the licence requirements and our by-law at four months of age and the six months required by the Veterinarian. This is not a major problem in the area however it has been recognized in some municipalities and they have altered their by-law accordingly. The Committee recommend, with respect to the above, that the Pound and Animal Control By-law be amended to provide for the revision of pound fees mentioned above and for the requiring of licences at cix months rather than four months 8S presently set out in the By~law. 3. Free or Subsidized Spaying The Committee discussed a program cf offering free or subsid ized spaying for female dogs. This came up aS a res ult of a comment recently made by Mayor Philips of Vancouver regarding the same subject. The Committee will be obtaining mow information on this for submission to Council as it would appear that it would substantially reduce the dog population and therefo re reduce dog control costs. The Committee will report further on this at a later date, LT: LDP: da
