Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence - Ceramics Invade the North Shore Early last year I contacted the four public galleries on the north shore with the idea of hosting ceramics exhibi- tions during 2005 to help celebrate the Guild’s 50th anniversary. From that initial contact evolved a fantastic opportunity to showcase not only the work of Guild members who reside in North and West Vancouver but also introduce the communities to many talented ceramic artists living throughout the province. During the month of May, there will be 5 concurrent exhibitions with participation by over twenty-five Guild members - well worth a trip ‘over the bridge’. An exhibition at the Silk Purse Arts Centre will feature work by students and teacher, Sam Kwan, from the Clay Studio program at Capilano College. A second show at this venue will present the work of grad students from five West Vancouver high schools. Both shows will be based on the theme of MardiGras and masks. The Ferry Building Gallery will feature work by Joanne Copp, Lisa Henriques, Tam Irving, Lewis Krzyczkowski, Vincent Massey, Sally Michener, and Laurie Rolland. These artists reside on the north shore, the sunshine coast and in Whistler. The CityScape Community Art Space will showcase work by ceramic artists from six different BC islands: Sandra Dolph, Jan Grove, Gordon Hutchens, Denys James, Lynne Johnson, Glenys Marshall-Inman, Judy Weeden, Jeanette Wrenshall, and Masoud Zadeh. The Seymour Art Gallery will be presenting work by ceramic artists who use wood, salt, soda, and/or flame in their process. Fifteen ceramists from throughout the province will participate: Susanne Ashmore, Heather Cairns, Maeva Collins, Cathi Jefferson, Lynne Johnson, Meira Matheson, Guity Moarefi, Sheila Morissette, Pamela Nagley-Stevenson, Susan LePoidevin, Pia Sillem, Alison Tang, Deb Taylor, Jinny Whitehead, and Pat Webber.
