en EN Make January a big month for new subs January could be the month of victories, The prognosis is good: with last week’s Supreme Court decision allowing thousands of formerly disfranchised voters to cast their ballot in Thursday’s election, Van- couver might see the return of an even larger COPE majority to the school board, and an anti- cutbacks board in Cowichan. COPE’s policies of adequate funding for education and a return of autonomy to Icoal school trustees make it the civic alliance that deserves the support of Vancouver voters. We at the Tribune think the paper also deserves your support. Just as we'd like to see a victory in the school board race, we'd like to see our paper score a victory with a successful conclusion to our 1985-86 subscription drive. We've achieved, with the hard work of our readers and suppor- ters, 461 renewals and 316 new subs — but that’s still a long way from victory, which in our case is 500 new subs by Jan. 31. (We remind our readers of the special offer: a copy of Fighting Heritage, the Tribune’s new book on the labor struggles of the 30s, for only $4, or Fighting Heritage and Ben Swankey’s The Tory Budget for only $8, with each new one year sub.) During the next few days, let’s all pull together and ensure a vic- tory for public education in this province — and the paper which fights for it. 41st Anniversary SALE 20% OFF regular prices on S regular prices on books from er erUS SR. a all books RY | RRENT AFFAIRS | io (LABOUR HISTO GENERAL TITLES Jan 18 - Feb!
