June 16th, 1975 That the City Engineer be instructed to call for tenders to immediately start work on Items (1) and (2) of the estimate submitted fer a single- storey fire hall building, being: Clearing & Grubbing; and Excavation & Backfill, respectively. Carried. Alderman Ranger voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger pointed out that the Greater Vancouver Housing Corporation will be constructing cu access to that area shortly, and stated he felt the City should wait until this has been done, however, Alderman Mabbett commented there would not be much work involved in bulldozing an access to the site. Alderman Mabbett stated his concern at the condition of Pitt River Road from the detour down Mary Hill Road to McLean Avenue during the approximately nine months the Greater Vancouver Sewerage & Drainage District has been constructing sewer works on McLean Avenue, and suggested that now is the time to repair that section of Pitt River Road while the traffic is lighter. Moved by Alderman Mabbett: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That the City Engineer be instructed to request the Greater Vancouver Sewerage & Drainage District to repair the section of Pitt River Road from Mary Hill Road to McLean Avenue immediately. Defeated. Aldermen Mabbett and Thompson voted in favour of the resolution. Prior to defeat of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Ranger stated he was opposed because he would rather the Drainage District repair the road after they finish construction of the sewer works. Alderman Laking pointed out that McLean Avenue will have to be repaved after the work is finished; also, the City will be re-constructing the McLean Avenue-Pitt River Road intersection and then the Drainage Distric: should re-pave the section from Mary Hill Road to McLean Avenue. Alderman Mabbett stated he understood there had been some complaints about the odor emanating from the sewage lagoon, and the City Engineer advised that the Greater Vancouver Sewerage & Drainage District had informed him that while a certain amount of odor is unavoidable, they would investigate the situation. Alderman Thompson referred to recent subdivision proposals in the Cedar Drive-Lincoln Avenue area, and Alderman Ranger, Chairman of the Public Works Committee, agreed to his request to investigate the availability /9.
