COUNC MAY 27 1974 Mayor and Council DATE: May 23, 1974 FROM: Building and Protection Committee The Building and Protection Committee met on Wednesday, May 22, 1974. Present were Chairman Alderman Mabbett, Alderman Ranger, Fire Chief Wingrove and L.D, Pollock, City Administrator. The Committee discussed future planning for the Fire Department and in particular the north side fire hall site and timing of construction of a north side fire hall. ; North Side Fire Hall Site The review of fire services carried out during a study of consolidation of sarvices indicated that an appropriate location for a north side fire hall would be in the vicinity of Coast Meridian and Prairie Road. The City owns a 66 foot lot on Sefton Street behind the Northside Shopping Ce on Toronto Street on the east side of Coast Me is suitably located, however, more desirable in view of the their housing development as b The Committee, therefore, woul that the Regional District can this land for a fire hall site. The Committee also discussed the timing of construction and manning of the north side hall location and ig prepared to recommend the following to Council for consideration: 1. That we reserve a portion of the City owned land on Toronto Street south of Prairie Road for future fire hall construction. 2. That we proceed to construct an access to the site and instal the necessary services. 3. That the Fire Chief Proceed to draw up specifications for a Pumper unit so that tenders can be called for the purchase of this equipment in the Fall of 1974, - The Committee was advised that there is at least a one year delivery date on.vehicles of this sort and the Committee feels that the tender calls should not be delayed beyond the Fall of 1974, 4. That we work towards a design for a building that would permit tenders to be called in the Spring of 1975 for the const quarters on the proposed site and that the include provision for manning the hall int in addition to the foregoing the Committee recommends that the Finance Committee review the method of financing the proposed construction which is expected to be in the neighbourhood of $80,000 to $100,000. for the building and $50,000. to $55,000, for the vehicle and also review the implications of manning this hall in 1975,
