TO: Mayor and Council DATE: May 2, 1974 FROM: L.D. Pollock, City Administrator 1. Student Summer Employment Program Mayor Campbell has received the attached correspondence regarding a group that i wishes to have the City sponsor a music education workshop with employees under the Provincial Government Student Summer Employment Program. Apparently this group sponsored a similar program last year by way of an Opportunities For Youth Grant, The project proposed would employ 17 students for the summer months and the total i cost of the project is estimated to be $25,719. All of this amount should be : recoverable under the Provincial program. Although the program is not oriented towards Port Coquitlam directly I understand that there are a number of Port : Coquitlam students involved in the project and it is for this reason that they have approached us to sponsor the project. I'm not sure how many employees that we can request under the program. Our : originai allocation was nine students and we have applied for projects involving : four students to date. If Council wishes to assist the group by sponsoring the . i as program it would be subject to obtaining the appropriate approvals from the \ me Greater Vancouver Regional District and our C.U.P.E. Local. The relevant items of correspondence are attached. 2. Municipal Officer's Conference : Attached is a copy of a letter from the Minister of Municipal Affairs advising that the annual Municipal Officer's Conference will be held in Vancouver the 29th through to the 3lst of May. This Conference is generally attended by myself, Mr, Freeman and Mr. Forcier and I would like authority for three to attend this year and that expenses be paid.
