Julie Freeman outthrew her Bantam opponents in the dis- cus, Chance Healey heaved the longest Juvenile shot and Ricki Chan outdistanced «his divisional long jump rivals, Healey added a second in the discus while Chan sped to the runner-up spot in the 300m and was fourth in the triple jump. Terrace’s other victory was a team effort with the ‘A’ team taking the 4 x 100m relay by an stunning 30 plus metres. Shawn Cross continued to improve his jumping height and distance, placing second in both the long and triple jumps and fourth over the bar. He added another fourth in the Juvenile shot, The triple jump provided an- other solid Terrace per-~ formance, Heather Kelly stretching out for second spot in the Bantams. Kelly, a BC Summer Games qualifying hope, also finished fourth in the 300m. Bambi Healey, Jamie Woods and Karla Stedham added the ‘team’s remaining runner-up placings, Healey in the long jump, Woods in the discus and Stedham in the Juvenile 100m. Healey and Woods also fin- ished fourth in their respective shot events, And Pamela Haugland un- wound a third place throw in the Bantam discus to rouad out the field successes, Terrace’s track entrants had a lock on fourth place, Dave Kelly finishing there in both the 300m and 100m while other fourths came from Melanie Mahon (1000m), Andrea Gray (100m), Melanie Wiebe (300m) and Justin Keitch (2400m). Noting the unusual distances ef some of the track events, coach Dave O’Brien explained the meet tries to focus on fun and participation. The odd dis- tances eliminate comparisons with meet records. For some of the team, he | _ pointed out, the Sub-Zero was their first time on a rubberized track “and they all raved about it,”’ He anticipated the experi- ence would also come in use- ful when the team takes to a similar surface at the zone championships ta be held in Prince Rupert this weekend. Based on resulis so far, O’Brien anticipated Terrace would be in the hunt for team honours at the zones. Qualifiers draw BC’s best SOME OF the province’s top Action Shooting guns took to the Thornhill range April 29-30, and came away with top honours, Shooters from Dawson Creek to the Lower Mainland were here for two BC Practical Shooting association qualifiers. Local Rod and Gun spokesman Terry Morris explained the events were sanctioned meets, part of a series which take place around the province, Anyone wanting to have a shot at making the BC team has to take part in a mini- mum number of these meets, hence the far- travelled visitors.
