BB Quesnel - 3 15 4 2 The Terrace Pony League All-Stars travelled to Quesnel July 3rd and 4th to ' play the Quesnel Babe Ruth All Stars and came out winning 3 games while losing only one to their hasts. , Terrace pitcher Jim Kellar pitched two complete games for the All-Stars, and won both by scores of 4-3and 13-2. Dave Metzmieir lost his first start 15-7, and was relieved in the fourth inning, ’ but bounced back Sunday morning lo lead Terrace to a 5-4 win. Both wins by Kellar were complete games, and Metzmieir gained a com- plete game in the 5-4 win. It was only in the second game of the series that relief help was needed. Ta the first game, played Saturday afternoon, Terrace scored one run in each of the first four in- nings, and despite a 3 run outburst by Quesnel in the sixth, managed {fo hang on for the victory. Quesnel did not get a hit in the first 5 innings, and only managed 2 baserunners to that bme, and pitcher Jim Kellar was never in serious trouble. In the second game, Terrace showed the effects of an 8 hour, 450 mile bus trip, as they went down to a 15-7 drubbing at the hatids of their hosts. Quesnel had no trouble, and they scored 5 Tuns in the 3rd inning, and 4 in the 4th, and never looked back from that point. Terrace was unable to get on the scoreboard until the 6th inning when they tallied 4runsand then3 more in the ith. Pitcher Dave Metzmieir was relieved by Doug Ritchie in the fifth inning. in tlie third game, played Sunday morning, Terrace scored ona runin the second ‘inning on a Sacrifice bunt by Jim Webb, and both teams then remained scoreless until the 6th inning, when Quesnel scored 2 runs to go -ahead. Terrace bounced back in the -bottom of the 6th, wheri a soft fly ball hit by Gregg Paulson eluded the Quesnel third baseman, and tworuns seored to put Terrace ahead 3-2. Terrace then scored two more runs to make the score 5-2. Quesnel was not ready to ive up, as they bounced ck with two more runs in the top of the seventh. The boys leave Friday morning for Prince Rupert, where they board the Alaska State Ferries for the trip north. They could play as many as 6 games in their four day stay in the American city. And plans are also underway for a return visit by Quesnel, tentatively set for July 17 and 13. Men's Open results Two local golfers took top honour in this past weekends’ Men’s Open Golf Tournament at Thornhill Golf and Country Club. Dan Rosengren who has been golfing out of the Thornhill Club for the past four irs finally put it all together and topped the 3 day, fifty-four hole tour-"” nament with a Low Gross score of 217, four strokes ahead of defending champion Jim. Nealé. Stan Patterson,-also a Jong time Thornhill club member, turnedin a netscore of 176 to capture the overall low net trophy fox the tournament. The tournament included a total of sixty-four entries with golfers trom Terrace, Prince Rupert and Kitimat. This was not a record field but quite satisfying to the tournament organizers who were faced with a_ split weekend which would have an affect on out-ol-town entries. However next year with a full three-day weekend holiday more entries will be expected. The weather altheugh --yery ‘cool for this time of year, helped provide for a successful tournament as the clouds were kind enough to hold back their moisture.
