Alderman Ranger then reported on his attendance at the Housing Conference in Vancouver. Alderman Ranger suggested that the Leisure Activities Committee meet with the developer in an effort to acquire title to proposed park site on Mary Hill. Alderman Laking referred to his attendance at the Lower Mainland Parks Advisory Association meeting last Thursday, and advised that although the proposal of the Provincial Government to construct an oil refinery in Surrey was discussed, no decision was made to object to it as all the details are not as yet known. Alderman Laking also advised that the Association has requested the Councils of each member municipality give consideration to sending a representative to the National Parks Advisory Conference being held this year in Quebec City. Alderman Laking then inquired when the culvert at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Cedar Drive would be installed and the City Engineer replied that the work will be started next week and completed before school starts in September; also no road closure is anticipated while the work is ongoing as one side will be completed before the other is Started; thus making it possible to provide one-lane traffic at all times. Alderman Keryluk referred to the light proposed to be installed adjacent to the crosswalk at George Pearkes School, and Alderman Mabbett advised that the Street Lighting Committee would review the matter again. Alderman Keryluk referred to the strike action proposed by guards at prison institutes in an effort to have the Federal Government cease interfering in the function of the Courts, specifically, those cases in- volving capital punishment, in view of the fact that several persons so committed for the killing of police officers and guards are going to have their sentences commuted, and in answer to his query on whether there is Alderman Traboulay re ยง abolition of Ex.
