Mayor Campbell: The Kinsmen Club of Port Coquitlam, in conjunction. with the National Association of Kinsmen are supporting a National Program marking the Anniversary of our Canadian Flag. ‘This program, appropriately named Heritage Day, has been placed before the Federal Government and we have received their wholehearted support as can be attested by the enclosed copy of a letter from the Prime Minister. The objective of the Kinsmen Association is to have the Federal Government proclaim Heritage Day a National Holiday, and to this end a bill has. been placed before Parliament. To date the bill has passed two readings and Royal Assent is expected during the next sitting. ; The intent of the Port Coquitlam Kinsmen Club is to sponsor a Kinsmen Canadiana area in the Public Library which would provide something tangible for the citizens of the City. We would envisage an ared of approximately 120-150 square feet of Library floor space set aside by movable dividers with a table and chairs provided for the area. The space would have an appropriate sign designating this area as the Kinsmen Canadiana Centre. The Club would undertake to stock this area with books of all kinds by Canadian authors only. The collection would be added to each year as an ongoing project. ‘We would alsc ask the cu~operation of the general public for their support in providing material. In addition to Canadian content we would envision a small separate area for the works and writings of local residents which would include old photographs suitably refinished and framed, works of art and literary works. The Kinsmen Club of Port Co:sitlam respectively seeks City Council approval of our modest proposal. In anticipation of such approval, we are pleased to present our cheque in the amount of $2,000.00 which we feel will cover initial expenses. Respectively, Kinsmen Club of Port Coquitlam M.L.
