OBJECTIVES continued

Reference and information needs will be satisfied by using the System Resource Centre

by means of telecomnunication and Toll-free line service with a basic local collection

of Reference Library materlals.to supplement the more extensive system resource collection.
All library materials, including Audio-Visual resources, and staff will be augmented

and strengthened as far as possible , and as needed.

Library users will have access to the complete book collection of the System through.

request and interlibrary loan. A Computer catalogue listing all holdings will be
available in the new yeare All library material processing and ordering will be handled

at System headquarters,

SERVICE PROGRAM

1. Information service

Increased sophistication of library users in close proximity with Vancouver urban
area, complexities of today's society, technology, education and industry will
“expand Reference service demands.

Larger Reference collections of all types of information library materials consisting

of periodicals, newspapers, maps, directories, indexes, hooks, pamphlets,

government publications, etc. will be needed,

Inquiries will be referred to the System Resource centre beyond the Branch resources
by means of telecommunication, trained Reference librarians will handle increasing
‘load and a good basic reference collection will be established in the Branch to
‘satisfy immediate local needs,

All local information source material will be collected and co-operation with local

information. agencies expanded.

Co-operation with school and other libraries will also be increased.
Photocopiers will be Supplied. Micro = film readers will be added.

‘2 Service to Adults

It is anticipated that the book Stock will inerease from approximately 13,000 volumes
to 40,9000 volumes. As far as possible all tastes will be considered.

Library materials will include books, magazines, pocket books, music and spoken records and

cassettes, films, and possibly picture loans,
