THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM MEMORANDUM TO: City Auministrator July 2, 1987 FROM; City Engineer SUBJECT: 5.C. Hydro Power Supply to Water Booster Pump Station - Public Works Committee June 30, 1987 Recommendation: That Route A for the B.C. Hydro right-of-way in the attached consultant's report be approved by Council and that the Mayor and Cierk be authorized to sign the necessary right- of-way agreements. Background and Comments: Route A is the route originally proposed for the B.C. Hydro power supplye The consultant for Genstar examined two other alternatives and these were considered by the Public Works Committee. The attached report gives estimates for the three alternatives. Route B which causes the least disruption to residents, also is the most costly. The City would ultimately spend $12,000 more than for Route A. It should also be noted that the cost of Route A is being front-ended by Genstar but that if Route B is chosen, Genstar would front-end only The cost of putting the power to the pump station. Twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) out of the total fifty-two thousand five hundred dollars ($52,500) would have to be paid directly by the City when the tine is eventually put underground. We would also face the usual delays in getting the poles removed for road construction. The Committee was very much sympathetic with the request of the residents to save the trees. However, it was felt that the extra cost could not be justified since the trees would eventually have to be removed. Although there are some large fir and cedar trees, many of the trees near the property line are ftarge alders which would be cleared at the time of development. The other trees would also not be expected to remain a tong time once the protective shelter has been removed and the ground disturbed around them. mela F.E. Peters, P.
