i aens ARS ese City OF LANGLEY RESOLUTION WHEREAS the population of the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area has been steadily increasing since the construction of the Port Mann Bridge; AND WHEREAS the traffic counts of motor vehicles using the bridge has steadily increased; AND WHEREAS more than 66% of the projected future growth of the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area will be south of the Fraser River: _ . AND WHEREAS a large majority of that future growth will use the Port Mann Bridge on a regular basis; . AND WHEREAS the bridge has reached its maximum for safely handling large volumes of traffic; | AND WHEREAS the Annacis Island Crossing currently under construction, will do little to help comuter and other traffic from Langley/Surrey to downtown Vancouver; ; . / AND WHEREAS the proposed Advanced Light Rapid Transit system, including its extension out to Surrey will not help the 85% of the people wishing. to take their vehicles into the Vancouver area; NOW THEREFORE BE I RESOLVED THAT the Council of The Corporation of the City of Langley petition the Provincial Government to re-examine the Lower Mainland Transportation Plan and to give top priority to the substantial improvement of Highway No. 1 from the Second Narrows Bridge to Abbotsford.
