POLICING REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF TO THE MAYOR OF PORT COQUITLAM POLICING HI-LITES/CASES OF INTEREST Our Crime Prevention Unit is heavily involved in the development of a school curriculum program, for introduction and commencement early this fall. This program will entail a much heavier police involvement in the schools than has been the case in Port Coquitlam in the past, and it is aimed at the "grass roots" of crime prevention which we see as encouraging young people from a very early age to live within the law. The initial program is to be directed at grades kindergarten to VII and expanded next year to all grades through grade XII. During July, our Port Coquitlam (Zone #3) re-scheduled manpower and embarked.on a program to control the problems traditionally encountered in certain areas during the summer, These trouble spots are in Port Coquitlam residential areas and the problems are youth oriented, prin- cipally related to liquor and motor vehicles. As a result of this Program, there has been a noticeable drop in disturbances; complaints about motor vehicles being operated recklessly in residential areas have decreased and the main trouble spots seem to be under control. The program is being continued through August. An extensive investigation we undertaken into a house fire at.1749 Dorset Ave., Port Coquitlam; the fire caused about $65,000.00 damage to the house and contents. It was reported as being of suspicious origin; however the investigation has not supported this theory and the cause appears to be accidental. TJ. DAVIS) Inspector OLC Coquitlam Detachment
