November 21st, 1977. for children to go to school. Mrs. Smith advised three methods were proposed: 1. a foot bridge, 2. a safe sidewalk along the Lougheed Highway, and 3. a bus. She pointed out that students must live three miles from the school to have a bus provided, but arrangements were made with the parents for bus transportation at a minimal cost while the Lougheed Highway was under construction last year and she advised that this arrangement could again be continued if the parents would get together and request the same of the School Board. She further pointed out that students in other areas do have greater distances to travel to school. Mr. M. Walton, 2393 Scott Place; Ron Hyland, student at Hastings Street Junior Secondary School; and Mr. Lee Mason reiterated the request that a bridge be constructed. Mr. Cam Aitken, 1657 Eastern Drive enquired concerning the possibility of constructing a cable bridge and the City Engineer replied that this would be considered along with other forms of construction and he further advised that the foundations of the bridge were a critical factor. Alderman Ranger advised cost of building a bridge north of the Lougheed Highway would be much greater than the estimate received in a ierpure. 1973 and 1974 for a foot bridge south of the Lougheed where the Coquitlam River is not as wide. Mr. H. Prante, 1889 Humber Crescent, suggested that the bridge should be in the best location to serve the maximum number of people. Mr. Al Robinson, 3075 Shaughnessy Street, advised that in his opinion a foot bridge connecting the parks was not a good idea and that a vehicle and pedestrian crossing at Lincoln Avenue would be a better solution. Mr. Ron Stevens, 3490 Edinburgh Street, advised that at the meeting held on Monday, November 14th, 1977 Council , according to his count, was in favour 5 - 1 for construction of a bridge across the Coquitlam River.
