October 7th, 1974 Alderman Laking stated he did not feel that doubling the pumping capacity in the Dominion Avenue area would be adequate and Mr. Bonham stated the new pumps will be more efficient than the existing pumps. Alderman Ranger stated his concern as to whether the proposed improvements were designed for the ultimate growth of the City, and Mr. Bonham advised they were designed for the present land use. Alderman Keryluk also stated his concern that the increased pumping facilities on Dominion Avenue will be inadequate if water is diverted from the Cedar Drive ditch in the winter, and Mr. Bonham advised the matter would be given further study. Mayor Campbell inquired whether it would be acceptable to include more pumping facilities in the proposal, and Mr. Fuller advised that it would; how- ever, the City would have to bear the additional costs therefor. Several members of the public gallery indicated their desire to speak and on invita- tion, Mr. H.T. Routley, 1980 Fraser Avenue, stated he felt there should be a wider shoulder on the dyke and an adequate gathering ditch in order to pre- vent the water from going in circles... Mr. Don Ray, 2820 Burns Road, stated his concern that the future growth on Burke Mountain was not taken into account in the recommended improvements to the dyking system. Mr. Bonham again mentioned that there are certain limits and stated that the program standards are the same throughout the Fraser Valley. A resident inquired whether the fish-spawning area would be disturbed by the program, and Mr. Bonham explained that one of the reasons for going to a gravity scheme wherever possible was to avoid such disturbance. His Worship the Mayor then thanked the Government officials for the in- formation they provided, and they then left the meeting. From the Port Coquitlam & District Hunting & Fishing Club, September PC Hunt.& Fish Club re 17th, 1974 advising that members of the Club's Environmental Committee Coq.R.clean- wish to speak on the Coquitlam River this evening and to request the NPe ere Council's help in cleaning it up. Alderman Traboulay advised that Mr. H. Prante wished to speak to the request, and on invitation, Mr. Prante stated that the River is not deep enough in places to accommodate migrating salmon, and thought the Council could undertake to have the channel dredged for salmon spawning. Alderman Traboulay referred to a letter from Mr. B.E. Marr, Deputy Minister, Water Resources Service, wherein he had stated he agrees that a River Management Study is required, and Alderman Traboulay advised that it is hoped to have a joint meeting with Mr. Marr, the District of Coquitlam and the City on the matter in the next short while.
