BUDGET: When Barbara Beach brought down her budget at the March execu- tive meeting we were rather surprised to find that we are going to he very low on funds before September. In early 1975 the Guild was faced with a reduced income (no Hycroft Sale in 1974) and escalating expenses. We held a special meeting recently to discuss the budget and reluctantly decided that we must increase our membership fees. As of September, when memberships are due again, the new fee structure will be: $10.00 for members in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, $7.00 for other areas in 6.C., $5.00 for students and $10.00 for group member- ships. Printing and mailing costs are our higgest single expense. In the past year members fees have not covered the cost of printing and mailing the Newsletter and the Western Potter. The last issue of the Western Potter cost $619.00 for printing alone. Fred Owen, the editor of the Western Potter, is trying to come up with cheaper printing rates as we hope to put out four issues a year. We feel it is very important to maintain the annual juried show, the travelling show, workshops and additions to keep our library up to date. We feel it is these things that make the Guild worthwhile and are reluc- tant to curtail any of them. It was suggested that we make Hycroft Sale a two-day event. Come to the meeting and let us know your feelings in this matter. Lately we have potters coming and going in this area: Kathleen Hamilton has moved from Richmond to Sardis. Don Hutchinsanplans to move soon. A potter from Russia, Galena Pischemitckhya, has recently setti- ed in Vancouver and is looking forward to becoming part of the potting community here. She is an Art School graduate and has done production work in a pottery in Russia. RUTH MEECHAN has finally got a studio set up in her daughter's basement in Vancouver and Hiro must have got inspired on his recent trip to Japan as he is now working at Tansar Crafts.
