AO - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, May 3, 2000 College notes 25 years NORTHWEST COM- MUNITY COLLEGE notes its 25th anniversary May 13 by handing out honour- ary diplomas to a number of people who have helped it over the years. The list of diploma re- cipients includes local carver Freda Diesing who also has a strong interest in anthropology, college board member Rod Arnold wha has helped the col- lege’s natural resource Management program and former college chair Kath- leen Bedard. Local teacher Gerry Sharples, who has been in- volved in the resource management program, will also get a diploma as will NDP cabinet minister Dan Miller who was instru- mental in getting the col- lege a new campus in Prince Rupert. Nisga’a Tribal Council executive member Ed Wright will also receive a diploma for his efforts in broadening access to edu- cation. This Saturday also marks the college’s annual convocalion ceremony and 175 graduates from its var- ious Campuses across the northwest will be attend- ing. The guest speaker is Fred Beil, a member of the college’s founding board of governors. Kit- sumkalum chief councillor Diane Collins will give a traditional welcome. Scholarships, bursaries and awards will be given to graduates. The convocation takes place at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre beginning at 2 p.m. May 13. Cabbie assaulted RCMP ARE looking for help in solving an assault that sent a cab driver to hospital with minor injur- ies March 25. Police say a cab driver dropped off a unidentified male at the Summit Court apartment building at 2606 Sparks St. on Terrace's southside on that day. As the passenger was leaving the cab, RCMP say he attacked the cab driver, punched him in the face and took off around the far corner of the build- ing. . He is described as a na- tive male, 6'2”, 180 pounds with a moustache and goatee. He was wear- ing a black t-shirt at the time of the incident.
