f ren U.S. chipper finds a new home here A NEW CHIPPING plant has been put in place at Skeena Cellulose’s Poirier Yard in Terrace. Crews were working on setting up the new equipment last week and early this week. The plant, which has deen brought up from Oregon by contractor Don Hull and Song Ltd., consists of drum debarkers, a chipper and conveyors, Don Hull and Sons spokesman Gordon Hull said the ma- ‘chinery is expected to be a significant improvement over the old chipper it replaces. It’s expected to producer cleaner, better qualily chips for transport to Skeena Cellutose’s pulp mill in Prince Rupert. Hull said screens will be used to filter out sawdust and oversized chips, The plant will also make much better use of material thal in the past ended up as waste. Shorter six or seven-foot lengths of logs in the past had to be landfilled, Hull said, but the new plant will be able to chip them. And he said the bark and other wood waste produced by the chipper IS Now going to be fed into a hopper. We're going to make hog fuel out of it so they can haul itdown to Rupert,”’ Hull said. The hog fuel will be burned in a steam generator at the pulp mill. “Ht used to be hauled to Carnaby and was just straight burned,” added Hull. He said the company’s got the machine here on a six- month trial rental, adding they’Il probaby buy it at that point if it’s worked out well. The chip plant will be operated by two shifts of three workers cach. It's slow going EFFORTS to form a society to operate the R.E.M. Lee Theatre have come up blank. City councillor Val George says not enough people have been showing up at the meetings and not enough of them are willing to serve on a board of directors. “People who are interested are not prepared to came for- ward as long as the details of what their requirements would be are pretty fuzzy,’’ George explained. He said the people who were at a meeting last week de- cided to form a committee that will try to draw up a con- stitution for the society-to-be and clarify its relationship with the school board. “It’s not moving as fast as it should, but it is moving along,”’ George said. Coast Mountains School District officials have cul the budget of the theatre and wanted contributions from the cily to make up the difference. But the cily has indicated it will oniy get involved if con- trol of the theatre after school hours rested with a non- profit group.
