TERRACG E DAYCARE Centre supervisor Sandra Hoffman, A Surveys results of a visit by vandals sometime during the evening of Jan. 8-9. Extensive damage was done. Vandals trash daycare centre THEY KILLED the pet ham- ster by spraying fire retardant on it. Then the vandals turned the fire extinguisher on every toy at the Terrace Daycare Centre on Kalum 5t, Centre supervisor Sandra Hoffman said its the third time the daycare centre has : been broken into in the last two months, but added the ~ centre had never been vandal- ized before. “This is a tolal disaster,’’ she said. ‘‘The police were quite shocked at the amount of damage that was done.” The intruders broke in through a window. They emptied the fridge and filing cabinet onto the floor and poured glue on the files. They poured gallons of paint on the carpets. “The kitchen was one big pile of food,’’ Hoffman said. ““We couldn’t find the floor or the phone. It was just com- plete total chaos.” So far they haven’t found anything missing, Hoffman’s guess is that the thieves were frustrated when they couldn’t find any money, and went on a destructive binge. “There is no one that I can think of that is personally out to get us,”’ she added. The non-profit daycare centre has been operaling at that location since 1978, Hoffman says there have been at least six break-ins there in the past year. Insurance paid for last wecek’s cleanup. The centre now plans to install an alarm system. BERBER ERRER ER ER REE REE ERE $20 .OFF.Rear : | Brakes. if. The company had put it and three gold mines up to sale late last year but found there were no takers for Red Mountain and three gold mines. American Barrick was trying to sell the properties as part of a cor- porate strategy developed after acquiring the propertics when it bought Lac Minerals in the fall of 1994, Lac, the former owner of Red Mountain, had spent close to $20 million in exploration and devel- ‘opment work. “Essentially with the move to sell the properties since acquiring them, we haven't focused on what they mean Jong term to us,’’ said American Barrick spokes- man Vince Borg of Red Mountain and the other three properties. He added that it will take some time for American Barrick to determine how the properties will fit into its operations in North American and in Chile. Failure to sell the properties won't affect American Bartick’s bottom line or cause it financial problems by having lo come up with money to pay for Lac’s pur- chase, Borg added. “The quality of our shares and our liquidity is so strong,” he continued. Borg noted that American Bar- rick had nearly (U.S,) $650 mil- lion in the bank as of last fall. The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, January 18, 1995 - A7 Stewart gold site future still cloudy Among those interested in Red Mountain was Westmin Mines which owns the Premier mine and mill near Stewart. Although it declined to make an offer, Westmin says it's inter- ested in milling the ore should an- other company buy the property and developit, | Lac at one time estimated there was enough ore at Red Mountain to eventually produce 225,000 ounces of gald a year. Its development work goes back three years but other ven- tures had taken a look at Red Mountain prior to that. American Barrick was particu- larly interested. in selling Red Mountain because of the distance between the site. and its other North American operations. fel oes aa Edith Gieselman Braid Insurance Agencies Ltd. is pleased to welcome Edith Gieselman to their professional insurance team.
