Carl Johansen was s responsible for setting up the program and Gary Shannon was camp director. The camp. opened Friday. night with scout troops. from ‘Terrace, Kitimat,:Prince Rupert, Smithers, and Kitwanga in attendance. The troops busied” themselves with camp setup that night, Saturday saw: ‘scouts attend training sessions: that’ covered - compass work, knot tying, water safety, nature, basic first ald, fire lighting, and axe and knife safety.”” The ; first year scouts got a chance to try their skills in cook- ing. Older scouts worked on a .bridge that spans the. hiking trail that leads from the Furlong Bay campsite fo First Avenue, A campfire was held: that eve- ning with scouts performing songs, skits and yells. Sunday moming, a scout’s own was held with scouter: Geoff McFarlane of Kitimat conducting the service and delivering an in- spiring message.
