6 Terrace Review — Wednesday, August 20, 1986 Trophies and checkered flags are part of every race day at the Terrace Speedw Seas ay. Soccer Selects will go to international series A select team of 14 boys from the under-18 division of Terrace youth soccer heads for Langley next week where they'll compete in one of the 16-team sections of an International Youth Soc- cer tournament. The team has been practicing several weeks for the Aug. 28 to 31 event, and they plan to travel to the Fraser Valley in a small bus to save on expenses. Golf team takes two tournaments Winning a golf tournament on a weekend is quite an accomplishment, but winning two tournaments on the same weekend is most unusual. It was the Aug. 9 weekend when. Skeena Valley Golf Club manager Dan Rosengren teamed up with Dale Loader, one of the best female golfers from Kitimat’s Hirsh Creek Club, to win both the Kitimat and Terrace Mr. and Mrs. Golf tournaments. They started on Friday Aug. 8 by taking overall low gross honors at the 18-hole Kitimat tourney. They repeated this feat Sunday at the 18-hole Skeena Valley tournament. In other results at the Terrace tournament, Wayne and Bev Epp paired up for overall low net honors while Greg MeNevitts and Sharon Smith won the net prize. The second flight saw Doug Little and Verda Port win overall low gross, with Rick and Bonnie Shaw grabbing low net. Smithers athlete travelled world Smithers track star Michelle Parrish has returned home from a busy July schedule whereby she competed in heptathlete events in the United States and Europe. She was the only northern B.C. member of the Canadian Junior National Track and Field Team, and one of two heptathletes on the squad, This event features jumping, throwing and sprints — a sort of all- round effort for athletes talented in several sports. At the Pan-Am Junior Championships in. Or- lando, Florida, early in July, Parrish suffered some back and ankle in- juries. She managed a fourth place finish among the four girls competing. The Canadian team then flew to Athens, Greece for the world junior championships in mid-July. Only nine countries sent hep- tathletes out of the 146 countries taking part. Parrish took 17th place out of 18 competitors. The team has another competition in Saska- toon next month, but Parrish won't be there. She says she’s had enough for this summer. In September she’ll head for Simon Fraser Univer- sity on an _ athletic scholarship. Her athletic plans include sprints as well as Heptathlon events. However, it’s still an expensive trip and they need a few hundred dollars to help them get by. The youths have been out on bottle drives and car washes, but have not yet raised enough money. Organizer and coach Carlo Stella has asked that any service clubs, businesses or individuals willing to help the team financially should con- tact him at 635-6703, or 635-2732. All assistance will be greatly appreciated. It limits the total number of animals the hunters may harvest and the kinds of animals, in terms of age and sex, that they may take. Six hundred hunts and eight species of animals. in fifty areas are in- volved in Limited Entry hunting this season. Ap- plications received to- talled 75,579, an increase of six percent over 1985. The 22,271 authoriza- tions available were dis- tributed to applicants randomly selected with the aid of a computer.
