It is a huge pile of feta cheese, a handful of green and red peppers, a layer of mushrooms, a lightly spiced tomatoes concentrate, few slices of salami, a pinch of mixed herbs and some olives are the main ingredients of the recipe. But the secret is now known to everyone... All ingredients must be related to the various elements of the Francophone community. For example cheese is the ingredient that consolidate teamwork and cooperation which should exist between all components being youth, parents, teachers, preschool people, school, community...Liquorice stick and candies add to the priceless flavour of Francophone youth. This Francophone pizza took the colour of its makers. In this activity participants expressed their vision of the community; and, with such activities the Consortium in Francophone Education carries on to promote the development of Culture in the classroom inthe communi- ties. In Comox among the twenty participants there were teachers, parents, members of the community and youngsters and all contributed to define the role of each and everyone in the children’s education.Comox was the first of three such activities; the next ones have been held in Nanaimo and Chilliwack. Starting from the point of view that education is everybody’s business, the purpose of these activities is to create an environment where all partners in education work together to create partnerships, projects or take joint actions. In this activity participants expressed their vision of the community; and, with such activities the Consortium in IN Francophone Education carries on to promote the development of Animation culturelle in the communities. THE PARTNERSHIP In Comox participants identified projects which could be realized jointly during next year : for example the pupils of Programme cadre could collaborate to the Association’s newsletter; the contest of Poems Writing (one of the Francophone National Week activities) could be repeated. The enhancement of the cultural environment for young Francophone pupils donot only concern the teachers | but also the Francophone community | at large. The new curriculum called IRP (“Integrated Resource Package’) that will be implemented in September 1997 includes an important section on Language and Culture. NANAIMO Some 150 kilometres from Comox the second meeting looked a lot like a family gathering. About thirty participants, young children included, did participate. The pizzas were very tempting and had also a name “Where your heart is”, “The Francophone face of the world”, and so on... Among the creations a school was sculpted with parents, teachers, and children of all ages around; youngsters built a complete neighbourhood where the Francophones could live their culture.
