THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM C 0 UJ Ny C [ MEMORANDUM AUG 27 1979 TO: Mayor and Council August 16, 1979 FROM: F.E. Peters, City Engineer Re: Water Study by G.V.W.D. As requested by Council, I have discussed the possibility of a water study with Doug MacKay of the G.V.W.D.. I explained the urgencies of the situation on Mary Hill and the Genstar area. A comprehensive water study for the City could be done in two stages. The first stage would consist of a conceptual plan showing the boundaries of pressure zones, the trunk mains required to serve these zones and the requirements for any pumping stations or reservoirs. In effect it would be a study of only the backbones of the water system but would he suffi- etent to allow us to prepare development cost charges for Genstar and also to give us direction in the methods of feeding all the other areas of the City. A second stage would involve a more detailed look at the grid dis- tribution system. It is not necessary for this second stage to be done at this time but it might be desirable to look at certain areas once we have the initial report. ot The cost of the first stage of the report would be about $5,000. Doug MacKay has agreed that the G.V.R.D. would absorb $1,000 of this cost leaving the City ‘vith an actual cost of about $4,000. If Council gives the go-ahead for this study on August 27th, the study could be completed by the end of October, 1979. As we need this report in order to deal properly with Genstar, I would recommend that Council approve of the study. The costs of the study can come out of the $13,50C Uncommitted Fund in the Water Capital Budget and can eventually be recovered through development cost charges. f Lo! F.E.
