THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ITEM V - Continued Some municipalities use a roll-over concrete curb and gutter in residential areas. Such a curb and gutt2r as shown in cross~section on the attached sketch no. 2 solves the above problems by eliminating the need for a special drive- way crossing and by providing an adequate thickness of concrete which resists breakage by heavy loads and snow ploughs. It also has the advantage that if a sidewalk is used, the sidewalk can be level rather than going up and down at each driveway crossing. This is of particular benefit to the older people who have difficulty in walking on an uneven surface. ° The Committee recommends that Council approve this type of curb for use in residential subdivisions in place of the extruded vertical curb. We have suggested to Ricard that, subject to Council approval, his subdivision would be required to use these.curbs. His comment was that he would prefer them. “The Engineer therefore requests your authority to make these changes to the specifications. Respectfully submitted, E. Peters, Po~Eng., ‘PF. City Engineer.
