RE: Conferences For Staff 1975

I have received requests from certain staff members for conference expenses for
1975. Janna Taylor has requested permission to attend the B.C. Recreation Assoc.
Conference which will be held April 2nd to 5th in Kelowna. Last year Janna attended
the Canadian Conference, however, this year she feels the B.C. Conference would

. be more beneficial. The cost of registration is $30.00 and in addition the usual
‘staff expenses would apply.

Mr. Borch has requested authority to attend the B.C. Water Waste Association
Conference which will be at the Harrison Hotel on April 7th to 9th. This conference
includes a one day seminar by the Environmental Protection Service of Environment
Canada dealing with new methods of sewage treatment. The cost of registration for
both programs totals $95.00 which includes some of the meals. ,

Mr. Borch has also requested authority to send the Parks Foreman, Mr. Heinz Klemn, .
to a seminar in Victoria sponsored by the Canadian Turf Grass Association. This
takes place on February 26th to 28th. Mr. Borch feels that this would be of con-
siderable benefit to this Foreman as it deals with a number of technical subjects
in connection with maintenance of shrubs and trees and in particular maintenance of.

park lands, turf care, etc.
I would recommend that the above conferences be approved and that expenses be paid.

RE: 1974 Home Owner Grant Applications

We have been advised by Victoria that the Provincial Government has extended the
deadline for Provincial Homeowner Grant applications to.March 3lst, 1975. Normally
the deadline is December 31st in the year of thé: grant.**-Council made some inquiries
about this as there has been newspaper advertising on the matter which sometimes
causes confusion. The advertising pertains to the 1974 grant not the 1975 grant and

‘anyone that was eligible and that failed to claim their grant in 1974 can apply up to

the end of March.
