| jr News In Brief Sidewalk still on WORK ON a sidewalk going in on the east side of the Sande Overpass is scheduled to resume, says a transportation ministry official. The project had been closed down pending the design of scaffolding allowing workers access ta the middle point of the overpass from the CN track area helow the structure. A standard scaffold would have been in the way of trains. — “We're planning to go until the weather shuts us down,” said transportation ministry official Don Ramsay. pe ~ The worry is that should cold weather hit, it’ll delay concrete pouring until warmer weather ar- rives in the spring. Ramsay hopes work can now continue at least to the point of being ready for concrete. : Vote machines eyed THE CITY ought to consider investing in voting machines for the next local elections, councillor David Hull says. “They’te not that expensive,” Hull said. “] think we're a big enought town we should look at them.” “It makes it easier for the voter -— these things are deadly accurate and lightning quick.” Chief administrative officer Ron Poole said the machines cost around $11,000 - or more than $50,000 for Five polling stations. Take police cash stand, outgoing councillor says TERRACE should take a stand on provincial plans to redistribute the costs of policing among tax- payers, outgoing councillor Val George says. Alarms have been raised over possible changes that could push a much higher policing costs onto smaller towns and unincorporated rural areas. So far the city hasn’t weighed in, George said, adding it should. He favours a proposal from the Port McNei!i council that would have policing costs paid province wide from income taxes, ra- ther than from local property taxes.
