Racing on grass? You bet.

IF YOU enjoyed them at the
drags Aug. 7 you'll get ta sce a
jot more this Sunday.

That’s when snowmobiles run
at Grass Blast 95, a day of head
to head - racing hosted by the
Skeena Valley Snowmobile As-
sociation.

“You get the same “speed on
gtass as on asphalt,’ said
organizer Ron Niesner. |

“The drags gave us a lot of
publicity. If people liked that,

they’ll want to ‘come out and see

them run on grass.”* |
The machines will be the same

‘but the tracking will be a bit dif-

ferent to run on grass.
Grass Blast 95 is sanctioned by
the racing division: of the B.C.

. Snowmobile Division and is the

first of four taking place in the

north.

“We mun at 500 feet, not the
660 feet of ‘the drags, noted
Niesner.

He’s expecting 00-plus entries,
some from as far away ‘as’ 100
Mile House and Dawson Creek.

This is the fourth annual Grass
Blast here and organizers have
changed things around a bit.

There'll be two King of the
Grass events this time, each with
a $500 cash prize up for grabs.

“The Stock King of the Grass
will open up things for those who
bring out their stock snowmobiles
— just as they came off the
showroom floor,” said Niesner.

And there’ll be a repeat of the
King — of the Grass, those nitro-

powered. muscle sleds calied-

“cookie sheets’? by those in the
racing game.

TERRACE RACER lan Black will be at Grass Blast 95. It takes
place Sunday off of Hwy16 East in Thornhill. Watch for the signs.

The stack class is limited to ma-
chines having no -more _than
800cc of power.

“This way there'll be some-
thing extra for those with’ stock
machines and. for the spectators
—— another race at the end,”’ said
Niesner.

Registration i is at 10 a.m. Aug.
20 and racing begins at noon,

Spectators should watch’ for a
sign heading east on Hwy16 in
Thornhill for directions,

‘Other grass racing events take
place in Tumbler Ridge, Vander-
hoof and Prince George.
