RECOGNITION _ FOR LOCAL | THERAPIST ~ Terrace physiotherapist Margaret Dediluke was honoured - with a prestigious. professional award by her colleagues at. a special awards banquet in the Delta River Inn March 7. The award is presented every second year to membérs who have made an outstanding contribution to their profession and to their communities, Dediluke was honoured for her work in Terrace at the Child Development Centre, for the Childbirth Education Association, and in her professional practice at the Kermodei Physiotherapy Centre. In addition, Margaret has been president since 1989 of the Association of Physiotherapists and Massage Practitioners of B.C. She was a presenter to the Royal Commission on Health Care and is president of the Provincial Physiotherapy Licensing Board of B.C. The Licensing Board has been reviewing changes to the Health Care Act and the laws and regulations that govern Health Care in B.C. "The act has been in force since 1932," said Margaret, “and we have been working on changes Margaret Dediluke: Clients from ail strata of society. for more than 15 years. It is not changed easily — nor should it be. But there have been so many advances in knowledge and tech- nology :n the last years that some changes are essential." Margaret is also active in the community and is this area’s representative on the Interim Governing Council (IGC) of the _ emerging University of Northern B.C. to which she brings her ex- tensive knowledge of medical needs in the northwest. "In the clinic we have clients from throughout the Northwest," says Margaret, "from all strata of society from the Nass to Kitimat and they tell me first-hand what we should be doing!" Many of her patients are recovering from in- dustrial injuries with retraining often of paramount importance. Margaret came to Terrace in 1973 after graduating from UBC with a Bsc. (Rehab. Med.). She ‘married fellow graduate David. Dediluke, a surveyor, soon after, and they have three children: Kirsten (15), Graeme (13) an Katie (11), _ 7 Both Margaret and David have first-hand knowledge of distance education and of the difficulties associated with post graduate education in the North- west.
