Le temps de déemenager est arrive ...

Le mot du directeur général ...

éménager, n’est
jamais facile. Quand
méme, quelques

fois, on doit faire ce qui est
mieux pour son association, et
le ler avril, AFFNO a com-
mencé une nouvelle période de
notre histoire dans un nouveau
local.

Vous souvenez-vous la
derniére fois qu’on a démé-
nagé: l’hiver de 2010, quand
AFENO a pris la décision diffi-
cile de déménager notre bureau
de Kitimat a Prince Rupert, et
on a commencé notre nouveau
partenariat avec Hecate Strait.

Pour presque 10 années,
ce partenariat était trés amical
entre nous — Hecate nous a
aidé pendant nos événements
locaux (Prince Rupert), et en
retour, AFFNO a aidé Hecate
avec leurs efforts divers dans
la communauté.

Et vraiment, c’est trés
possible que ce partenariat
continuera, mais pas dans le
méme batiment.

Mais, vers la fin de 2018,

certains reglements de Work
B.C. ont commencé a changer,
et la possibilité d’une aug-
mentation significative du
loyer nous a forcé a trouver
un nouveau local pour notre
association.

Vers la fin de février, AF-
FNO a annoncé notre nouveau
partenariat avec Macro Proper-
ties, aussi a Prince Rupert.
Dans un monde parfait, nous
aurions préféré rester avec nos
amis de Hecate Strait ot on
était établi pour presque dix
ans, mais come mentionné,
quelques fois, un changement
est nécessaire pour la stabilité,
et ca c’est ce qu’on a fait.

Une chose qui change c’est
que notre bureau a mainten-
ant une présence ‘sur la rue’,
ou nos membres (ou simple-
ment des personnes curieuses)
peuvent entrer dans notre
bureau, et immédiatement
peuvent prendre connaissance
de notre bibliothéque, nos pro-
grammes, etc. AFFNO est en
train de planifier une journée

‘porte-ouverte’ dans le futur,
probablement aprés le 30 avril.
On veut que la communauté
francophone ET francophile de

Prince Rupert (et bien tout le
nord-ouest) devient beaucoup
plus impliquée avec AFFNO.

The time to move to

oving is never
easy. That said,
sometimes you

have to do what is best for
your association, and on April
Ist, AFFNO began a new
period of our history in a new
home.

Think back to the last time
we moved: it was Winter 2010,
where AFFNO had made the
difficult decision to move from
our Kitimat office to Prince
Rupert, where we began our
new partnership with Hecate
Strait.

For nearly 10 years, this
partnership was very amicable
between us — Hecate Strait
supported us during our local
events (Prince Rupert), and
in return, AFFNO supported

Hecate during their various
community endeavours. And
in reality, we are hoping

this partnership continues,
despite now being in separate
buildings.

But near the end of 2018,
some regulations with Work
B.C. began to change, and
the possibility of a significant
increase in rent forced us
to find a new home for our
association, and near the end
of February, AFFNO officially
announced our new partnership
with Macro Properties, also
located here in Prince Rupert.

In a perfect world, we
would have preferred to remain
with our friends at Hecate
Strait where we had become
established for nearly 10 years,

another location ...

but as mentioned, sometimes
a change is necessary for
stability, and that is what we
did.

One thing that has changed
is that our new office has a
better street-presence, where
our members (or simply
curious bystanders) can enter
our office, and immediately
check out our library, our
various programs, etc. AFFNO
is working on scheduling an
‘Open House’ in the future,
likely after April 30. We
want the Francophone AND
Francophile community of
Prince Rupert (and of course
all of Northwestern B.C) to
become more implicated with
AFFNO.

So, does that mean other

changes are on the horizon?
Not really.

AFFNO will continue to
work hard in our Northwestern
communities to protect
French language, culture, and
education, without exception.
Month by month, our
Northwestern school boards
continue to show us that
despite record numbers in the
French Immersion program,
at the end of the day, the
program is just not considered
that important, and that must
change.

Immediately.

Yes, it’s true, sometimes,
changes are necessary.
Especially when the future
depends on it.
