COMMENT Many thanks to Moya Waters for her informative talk on photographing pottery. Below is a summary for the benefit of those who missed the meeting. Equipment: Camera - 35mm single leans reflex, with manual option, changeable lenses, light meter. Lens - Macro (55mm) or 50mm with tele-extension. Tele-extender - attaches to the camera between the lens and the body and multiplies the focal length resulting in a semi close-up image. Tele-extenders do not give quite as fine a picture as a regular lens, nor do they allow as much light to reach the film. Extenders of 2x magnific- tion cut down the amount of light by the equivalent of 2 f/stops. Tripod Lights - two is preferable. Incandescent lights, desk lamps, lamps without shades, etc. Sereens - reduce glare and shadows - can be made of trans- lucent materials such as paper, cloth, milk-coloured glas or plastic. ight Meter - measures reflected light and/or incandescent light. Reflected light meters are pointed at the subject to measure the amount of light reflected from the subject area, Incandescent light meters are held close to the subject and pointed at the camera to measure the intensity of total light falling on the subject. Many cameras also have built-in light meters. Film = Black and White prints - Plus X Pan ASA 125. Colour slides - Ektachrome Tungsten 160 ASA = refers to light sensitivity of film.
